Every Wednesday from 10.00 to 16.30 the weekly market fills the West- and Oost-Voorstraat: fresh seasonal produce, cheese, fish and regional specialities. It is still the busiest moment of the week in the village.

Oud-Beijerland: harbour, Voorstraat, terraces
The old centre sits around the harbour, where the yachts moor and the terraces line the quay. From there you walk straight into the Voorstraat: shops, historic facades and the old town hall with its stepped gable and bell tower.
Looking for somewhere to eat? Most places sit together around the Havendam and along the Oost- and West-Voorstraat — from a sandwich on a terrace to a long dinner. Ask Patrick what’s good at the moment; he’ll happily tell you.

The nature island of Tiengemeten
A whole island without cars, reached only by ferry — from Nieuwendijk in Zuid-Beijerland, daily between 10.00 and 17.00 on the hour. Cattle and draught horses graze the island, the white-tailed eagle shows itself regularly and three walking routes start at the visitor centre. Book your ferry ticket in advance.
Cycling through sixty polders
The Hoeksche Waard is a National Landscape: open polder country with winding creeks, dykes full of flowers and old farmhouses. The cycle node network lets you put your own route together — there are rounds of around forty kilometres across the whole island.
Terraces by the water
Around the harbour and on the square in the centre you sit by the water looking out over the moored boats. Ideal for a long lunch, or a drink when you come back off the dyke in the afternoon.
On foot
Walking where it really is quiet
On foot is how this landscape makes sense: the openness, the pollard willows along the dykes, the creeks. Several walking routes are waymarked, and you can pick up route descriptions at the Klein Profijt nature visitor centre on the Zalmpad in Oud-Beijerland — which has a terrace looking out over the Oude Maas.
